Reston, VA, December 5, 2017 - Whitney, Bradley & Brown, Inc. (WBB) hosted a U.S. Air Force Mentor Protégé Workshop on Wednesday, November 29th at their Headquarters in Reston, VA.

This collaborative event informed potential Small Business protégés and Large Business mentors about the benefits and requirements of the US Air Force Mentor Protégé Program. Small Businesses had the opportunity to meet and network with Large Businesses, allowing eligible protégés to discuss how they could further develop their qualifications thus increasing their ability to compete for prime contract and subcontract awards through the Mentor Protégé Program.

“WBB takes great pride in building strong teams to win and deliver high quality work to our customers, and teaming with small businesses is critical for continued growth. Hosting today’s Mentor Protégé Workshop, sponsored by the USAF, was a great event to share lessons learned and network with small businesses,” said Robert Olsen, WBB’s Chief Executive Offer. “Participation by OSD and Air Force Program Directors showed commitment to the program. We were also fortunate for the excellent support from Southern University, our HBCU partner.”

This workshop featured multiple speakers, including Mr. Shannon Jackson, Small Business Associate Director MPP, OSD; Mr. David Sikora, USAF MPP Program Manager; Dr. Samuel Washington, Director Government Contracting Southern University and A&M College; Mr. Denis Clements, COO Planet Risk Federal; Ms. Heather Reis, Vice President, Integrated Technologies Group; Mr. Tracy West, WBB; and Mr. Richard Justice, Vice President Air Force Business Development.

“The DoD is focused on continuing to grow the industrial base to support emerging needs and warfighter capability gaps. WBB’s decision to host this workshop will make a huge impact on the small business community as well as the mentors and protégés that are currently in the DoD program and are interested in participating. The topics that are being discussed are some of the most challenging, including cybersecurity and innovation,” Mr. Jackson said.

This workshop also focused on the advantages and best practices of attaining Quality Management and IT Security Certifications, and covered a wide range of industries, including: Manufacturing Information Technology Systems, Engineering/Consulting Services, Environmental Services and Cyber Security.

“This workshop provides a nexus for Historically Black Colleges and Universities to partner with small businesses, especially in IT and Cybersecurity,” said Mr. Samuel Washington, who currently serves as Director of the Office of Government Contracting Services, and was responsible for initiating the DoD Mentor-Protégé program and Student Mentor-Protégé Program at Southern University.

The US Air Force Mentor Protégé Program assists eligible Small Businesses (protégés) in developing their qualifications and ability to compete for prime contract and subcontract awards by partnering with large businesses (mentors), who provide developmental assistance under individual, project-based agreements to help meet the Air Force mission.
